From the flamingo decor scavenged by the two moteliers to the art-deco wallpaper, The June is less motel and more tropical paradise. Two former sorority sisters, Sarah and April, purchased the old Sportsman Motel and ‘Extreme Makeover: Motel Edition’-ed the place into the perfect girls’ getaway from the concrete jungle.
“We knew there was demand for something like this in Prince Edward County,” Sarah explains. “You go to all these beautiful wineries out here and purchase an expensive bottle, only to go back to your hotel room and drink it out of plastic cups. We wanted to create a place that has bottle openers and appropriate wine glasses available in each room.”
Prior to their joint adventure, Sarah worked for the government and April worked in public relations. The two friends saw an opportunity to switch careers and create a dream stay that would cater to bachelorettes looking for the ultimate getaway.
“We actually stayed here when it was the Sportsman Motel,” April says. “There were limited options in PEC for cute and cool places to stay that accommodated a group of girls. We knew that there was an opportunity here for us to work with.”
Since June 2016, the entrepreneurs have been working hard to transform the once-popular stay for fishermans into an Instagram-worthy destination for all things cute, pretty, and pink.
“Oh gosh, we swatched so many shades of pink before we settled on one,” the business partners reminisced. The gossip of the county for the last year, The June finally opened doors this May and expects to be fully booked all summer long.
